Abstract: China's strategy in Africa has evolved significantly from primarily economic engagement to a more pronounced focus on security collaboration. This shift was formalized during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Beijing, where China pledged billions in aid, including $140 million for security efforts. Faced with growing instability across the continent, China aims to protect its investments while projecting power by training military forces, conducting exercises, and surpassing Russia as Africa's leading arms supplier. China's expanding influence, driven by its Global Security Initiative, positions it as a key security partner, intertwining military support with economic partnerships. However, this approach could lead to increased African dependence on Chinese aid, while raising the potential for geopolitical complications as China becomes deeply entangled in regional conflicts. Despite these risks, China's new security strategy signals a profound shift in Africa’s geopolitical landscape.
