Abstract: In recent months, Libya has witnessed a resurgence of familiar tensions and power struggles between rival governments — reminiscent of past conflicts. The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity faces a serious challenge from the Government of National Stability in Sirte, led by Fathi Bashagha. Bashagha's ability to negotiate compromises and his extensive connections across Libya have propelled his influence, but the political landscape remains fractured. Despite Bashagha's efforts, neither side is willing to collaborate, leaving Libya trapped in a stalemate that threatens to perpetuate the status quo. With external interventions unlikely and internal divisions deepening, Libya faces a bleak future of continued fragmentation.
