Abstract: Since assuming the presidency, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani has made anti-corruption a priority in Iraq, but progress remains sluggish due to entrenched corruption within the power-sharing system. Al-Sudani's fragile government and US engagement complexities further complicate the situation. Structural reforms and societal engagement are essential to combating corruption. The US can support reform by imposing sanctions, promoting integrity within institutions, and fostering civil society. However, systemic change requires a fundamental shift in Iraq's political landscape, challenging but necessary for a more accountable and democratic future.
