Hafed Al-Ghwell is an international relations and geopolitical analyst known for his expertise in the political economies of North Africa and the Middle East.

He is a Senior Fellow and Executive Director of the North Africa Initiative at the SAIS Foreign Policy Institute, Johns Hopkins University and a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Center of Conflict and Humanitarian Studies, and has previously held senior roles in the World Bank and IMF.


With an extensive knowledge of the political economies of North Africa and the Middle East, government affairs, international relations, and geostrategic risks, he is a go-to commentator for the region and is frequently featured on major international media outlets.
