Arab world must learn to live with COVID-19

Abstract: Governments globally are struggling to adapt to the evolving COVID-19 landscape, especially with the emergence of new variants and persistent challenges. Vaccine inequality and hesitancy exacerbate the situation, threatening the success of ‘zero COVID’ policies. While developed nations anticipate endemicity, the Global South faces fresh outbreaks due to vaccine disparities. Without updated strategies and equitable access to vaccines, the world risks severe disruptions, economic downturns, and social unrest. Particularly in the Arab world, politicized responses hinder effective crisis management, highlighting the need for decentralized approaches and long-term mitigation strategies. Normalizing testing, tracing, and vaccine mandates, alongside local production of essential supplies, are crucial steps towards resilience. Failure to address these issues could deepen existing socioeconomic challenges and heighten tensions between governments and citizens.
